Itinerary:  Murchison Falls and Kibale Forest National Park
Duration:   5 Days

Murchison Falls

Day 1
Depart after breakfast and drive northwest to Murchison Falls National Park. The drive takes you through Luweero district were inhabitants practice both commercial and subsistence farming. The route is punctuated by small trading centers and sometimes roadside markets. Have a lunch break at Masindi before proceeding to enter the park via Kichumbanyobo Gate. Arrive in time before sunset for the sparkling view at the top of Murchison Falls, you will marvel at the breathing sight of the raging Nile, longest river, in the world as it forces its way through a rocky gap barely six to seven meters wide! This is the point where the Nile explodes through a narrow gorge and cascades down to become a placid river.

Overnight at Red Chilli camp (budget), Sambiya River Lodge (mid range), or cross River Nile by ferry to the northern bank to overnight at Paraa safari lodge (up market).

Day 2
Start the day with an early morning game drive in the Northern circuit of the park. You will be able to view animals unique to the African savannah like giraffes, antelopes, lions, elephants, and the famous Uganda Kob.

Drive back to the lodge for lunch before going for a 3-hour boat cruise on the Nile River. The cruise upriver takes you to the bottom of the thundering falls where you will see huge crocodiles, schools of hippos, buffaloes, elephants, and a wide variety of water birds like herons, ducks, bee-eaters, cormorants, king fishers, skimmers fish eagle and rare shoebill!

Overnight at Red Chilli camp (budget), Sambiya River Lodge (mid range), or Paraa safari lodge (up market).

Day 3
After breakfast, depart by road to Fort portal. This scenic drive will give you a view of the beautiful Blue Mountains of Congo across Lake Albert. Drive through vast tea plantations before arriving in Fort portal.
Overnight in Ndali Lodge or Rwenzori view Guest House (FB).

Day 4
After breakfast, report to the ranger station in Kibale National Park at 08.00am to track habituated chimps - these delightful apes, more closely related to humans than to any other living creature, are tremendous fun to watch as they squabble and play in fruiting trees. The incredibly diverse forest is home to over 13 species of primates including red Colobus monkey, the rare L’Hoest, blue monkey, grey mangabey, pottos, black faced vervet monkeys, baboons and also bushbabies. A network of shady forest trails provides much to delight botanists and butterfly lovers, while birders are in for a treat with 335 species recorded including the endemic Prirogrine’s ground thrush.

The elusive forest elephant, smaller and hairier that its savannah counterpart, moves seasonally into the developed part of the park, while other terrestrial mammals include buffalo, giant forest hog and a half dozen antelope species.

If you have the energy in the afternoon, you will take a walk in Bigodi swamp for its rare, beautiful flora and fauna. You will also have an opportunity to interact with a successful community tourism project.
